What is my dream job? My Story + Tips

Welcome back to my blog! This week I am talking all about the future, specifically my dream job and career. We all have a dream, but our dreams can change. When I was younger, I was dead set on being a chef. As a kid I dressed up as a chef for multiple Halloweens, wearing an apron that said, Chef Catey. However, when I went to high school my interests changed.

When I entered my sophomore year of high school, I registered for my first marketing class. I instantly loved what I was learning. I enjoyed working at the school store where I learned about social media, and advertising/promoting. I continued learning and my interests grew even more. My junior year of high school, I ran my high school’s athletic social media. Doing this for over a year really sparked my interest in digital marketing and sports. This was an “ah-ah” moment for me. This is when I realized that I want to do this as a career.

Running my high school’s athletic social media accounts was a great opportunity. I posted about college recruitment's, game schedules, and pictures of athletes. Running these accounts really showed me that I wanted to do this as a career, and I would do anything to make it possible!

So what are my tips on how to get started in your dream job? First, get involved in clubs and organizations in high school. In high school, it can be hard to get involved in clubs since you’re still young, and figuring out what you want to do. Join any club you are interested in. You will be able to make friends, find a new passion, and be involved in a club that shows dedication and hard work.

In high school, I was a part of Key Club (a community service club), Life of an Athlete (a sports and fitness club), and I played field hockey. Each club/sports team gave me different opportunities and experiences. Being a part of a community service club helped me in several ways. I was able to meet new friends, attend conferences, and help my community. Being a part of a sports team and a sports club helped me find my passion, working in sports. I never thought joining these clubs would help me find my future career.

How about after high school? College is the time to get involved and find internships for your career. My number one tip is to start early, even if you are an underclassman! Start building your resume, join clubs, and do something different to get your name out there. What do I mean by that? If you are a nursing major, become an LNA. If you are a political science major, work for a local campaign. Do something to get an extra start! For me, I am going into my sophomore year of college and I just got a marketing internship. I did this buy joining clubs, having marketing experience (high school), and I am writing this blog! I repeat, again and again, get started early!

We all have dreams, and these dreams are possible. Do everything in your power, and you will succeed! A dream is not just a wish, you can do it!
