Hi everyone, welcome back to my blog! This week I am talking about something very important, self-care! For a while, I never did anything for myself. I was just going through the motions day by day. However, I have learned that self-care is not just a facemask or getting your nails done, it is all about loving and taking care of yourself. For me, my self-care routine has helped me build confidence, be happier, and healthier!
One thing I like to do for self-care is to work out and stay active. Working out has done several positive things for me such as setting goals for myself, building confidence, and thinking more positively. Even though I’m not a student-athlete anymore, working out is still very important to me. I also think it is important to find a workout activity you like. It could be running, biking, lifting weights, or anything you enjoy. Working out is more fun when you like the activity you are doing. Also, recently, I’ve decided to join an adult field hockey league. I am super excited to play field hockey again, just for fun this time!
Secondly, I like to write. I’ve always been a fan of writing, writing essays in school, or writing in my school’s newspaper. Over time, I have learned that writing is therapeutic for me. Journaling is something I have been very passionate about recently. Writing in my journal allows me to write all my feelings out, not feeling any pressure talking to someone about it. I usually write about how my day was, any thoughts in my head, any dreams/nightmares I had, and any extra thoughts.
Next, I like to read! In the past, I rarely saught out reading for fun, but recently it has helped me in several ways. One book I read recently was What Made Maddy Run. So far this is my favorite book I have read. I related to Maddy, as she struggled with her mental health in collegiate sports. I learned a lot of valuable lessons from reading this book! I also am currently reading The Modern Breakup Book. To all my girls (and boys!) out there, breakups plain and simple, suck. This book is very relatable as it talks about relationships in our modern society. I also really enjoy this book, as it talks about self-confidence and self-esteem after a tough breakup. I highly suggest this book to everyone!
Finally, I like to focus on my skincare. For a while, I have not had the best skin. I struggled with acne in middle and high school. When I was a freshman in high school, I decided to start the birth control pill. I decided to start taking Drospirenone Ethinylestradiol. My dermatologist explained to me that this birth control was proven to help clear acne. After taking the medication for a few months, it helped clear my skin. I currently also use a face cream prescribed by my dermatologist called adapalene gel. I also always wash my face twice a day and moisturize, and I have been using Neutrogena products for years.
If I’m feeling extra in the skincare mood I love to use face masks. Here are some of my favs:
Mask of Magnanimity from Lush. This is one of my absolute favorites. It makes my face feel hydrated, moisturized, and clean.
I also like using clear pore from Neutrogena. I like using this face mask when I’m breaking out since it has benzoyl peroxide in it.
If I’m looking for just a fun face mask, on a girls night or just when I’m in a good mood, I like to use
Spa Scriptures dead sea mud face mask. I bought this at Macy’s and I love it. It makes my skin feel very soft and hydrated.
I also love using any of the Sephora face masks, especially the peppermint gum mask. This mask smells amazing and it’s a fun color!
Self-care is super important and is key to feeling good about yourself, and also maintaining good mental health. Never feel guilty for focusing on yourself, self-care is key to success!
